Children's Discovery Museum

Life at the Lake

There are MANY more details to be added, but the major play structures have been fabricated for the new Lake Life environment at the Children's Discovery Museum in Grand Rapids, MN. It's their first new interactive play exhibit in 14 years!

Part of what I really enjoy about museum projects is being able to create immersive environments with a specific "sense of place":  Once all the detail pieces get added, the kids will be able to cook a pretend meal at Grandpa's Cabin, role play with costumes and props in the Lodge Theater, climb up to the Yurt to do some bird watching, catch magnetic fish off of the Dock... all within a designed Northwoods Lake Life theme.

Thanks go to Ashley Wereley for the detailed four-seasons mural that is going around the room, and to Rob Rachow and Hallie O'Connor for immersing themselves in sawdust and polyurethane for days on end!  ROCK KICK!

Cabins and deer stands and docks, oh my!

Today I begin fabrication on another museum exhibit -- 1500 sq ft of Northwoods-themed fun that I designed for the Children's Discovery Museum in Grand Rapids, MN. Ashley Wereley has already started on the wrap-around mural, and I will be spending much of each week building on-site over the next 4 months.

Anyone in Duluth who wishes to help my family withstand my absence can do so by spraying bacon-scented room spray around our property or by shouting Vikings-related rants into the windows and vents.
